As a clinical mental health counselor I help individuals, couples, and families strive for wellness in life. My role with Lifexcel is to support you in achieving your weight and health goals. I aim to help you recognize and understand the emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and patterns that may be keeping you from making any changes you want for yourself. Together we will explore aspects of your life that may contribute to your struggles with weight and health, which may include: personal values and beliefs, self-esteem, relationships, family dynamics, personal history, work, school, anxiety, emotions, coping skills, etc.. Using a narrative and strengths-based approach. I recognize you as the expert in your own life and value the strengths, abilities, wisdom, and personal characteristics you bring to counseling.
I am in the process of completing a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My current research focuses on recognizing and reducing weight-bias in the field of Mental Health Counseling. I recognize that individuals with excess weight experience bias and stigma from loved ones, professionals, and society and I am dedicated to addressing and reducing this stigma, specifically in the counseling profession. I am passionate about providing quality services where you feel safe to be your authentic self and express yourself freely while feeling heard and understood. I am excited to be working with Lifexcel, where we work to support your physical health and mental health goals and needs.
I have counseling experience with issues of self-esteem, weight-related concerns, grief and loss, life transitions, relationships, foster care, and childhood abuse/neglect.
I look forward to meeting you and working together on your personal journey of healing and growth!
